Share your CrossFit Prototype experience and fitness journey
I started CrossFit as some of the guys I play hockey with were going to CrossFit (Prototype). I noticed they were in better shape than I was and I was interested in seeing what CrossFit was about. First couple of weeks at CrossFit I was sore but then I began to get in better shape, I lost some weight, and had more energy.
What is your favorite part about being at CFP?
My favorite part of CrossFit is the camaraderie and flexibility of the workouts. Some exercises are difficult for some of us older individuals and the trainers always suggest good alternatives so we can always get in a good workout.
What are your hobbies and activities?
My favorite things to do are playing hockey, going to CrossFit, and hanging out with my family and our two dogs.
How has (if it has) CFP helped you outside the gym (in sports etc)?
On February 6th of this year I had a stroke. Spent a week in the hospital undergoing tests. No reason was found for the blood clot that caused the stroke so I was released from the hospital. Once I got home, I started walking on a treadmill. That got boring quickly so, I decided to try some of the exercises we do at CrossFit. I’d walk around the house. (Driving my wife nuts) and do a burpee. Walk some more and do a couple of burpees. Kept on doing that until I could do a bunch in a row, Then started doing air squats. Then wall balls, then jumping rope and lifting light weights.
Eventually I felt well enough to go try a WOD at CFP. First couple were tough but the trainers were excellent and modified the WODs so I could do them. Each WOD I did going forward got a little easier and going to CrossFit and the exercises I learned there helped in my recovery. I’d like to thank CFP and all the trainers in helping me recover from the stroke. I’m feeling better each day and now I’m back working and looking forward to getting stronger and in better shape.
What are you continuing fitness goals to this point?
I plan on continuing with CrossFit and playing hockey to keep me in the best shape possible and keep moving as I get older.
